Acute pain: Pain that has lasted a short time (e.g., less than
3 weeks) or is severe.
Adjustment:
A specific force applied to one or more of the vertebrae of the spinal
column to remove nerve interference and promote the body's natural healing
ability.
Chronic
pain: Pain that has lasted a long time (more than 3 months).
Disease:
(Dis=apart from, Ease=harmony or comfort)
Disease is the lack of harmony within a system. When there is nerve interference
(i.e. subluxations), the body can not be in harmony, resulting in disease
and disorganization.
Health:
A state of optimal physical, mental and social well-being not merely the
absence of disease or infirmity (symptoms).
Holistic:
Consideration of the whole person and the whole situation (mind/ body;
mind/ body/ spirit, or physical/ mental/ emotional/ spiritual aspects).
When this meaning is applied to illness, it is called holistic medicine
and includes a number of factors, such as dealing with the root cause
of an illness; increasing patient involvement; and considering both conventional
(allopathic) and complementary (alternative) therapies.
Mobilization:
A technique, used by chiropractors and other health care professionals,
in which a joint is passively moved within its normal range of motion.
Musculoskeletal:
Pertaining to the human system that gives us the ability to move. It consists
of the muscular system and the human skeleton. Bones are attached to each
other by joints and skeletal muscle is attached to bones by tendons.
Sublaxation:
When one or more of the vertebrae are misaligned, the flow of energy and
messages from the brain to the body is altered. This causes disorganization
and disease. Subluxations are known as "silent killers", often
they go undetected, slowly deteriorating your health.
